
Position Summary
The Board supports the work of Creature Comfort Pet Therapy and provides mission-based leadership, expertise, resources (time, talent, resources and treasures) and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by CCPT’s Executive Director and staff, there is a strong partnership between the Board and staff, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership, Governance and Oversight
- Knows the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs
- Follows the organization’s Bylaws, policies and Board resolutions
- Keeps informed of and meets all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
- Approves the Board of Trustees appointments, annual budget, audit reports and material business decisions
- Faithfully reads and understands the organization’s financial statements and tax returns
- Serves as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as they develop and implement our strategic direction
- Reviews outcomes and metrics created for evaluating impact, performance and effectiveness
- Contributes to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director
- Prepares for and actively participates in scheduled Board meetings
- Partners with the Executive Director and Trustees to ensure that resolutions are implemented
- Participates as a Committee Chair and or member to achieve the organization’s goals
- Signs an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure
- Updates statement during the year if necessary
- Discloses potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
- Maintains confidentiality with respect to all internal matters of the organization
- Make an annual personal financial contribution by July at a level significant to each individual trustee.
Ambassadorship and Fundraising
- Maintains an active role in fundraising and attends all major fundraising events
- Attend a minimum of one P.E.T.S. event (Programs to Educate, Train and Share) annually
- Attend one volunteer appreciation event annually
- Leverages resources that benefit the organization’s fundraising, mission and reputational standing, including potential sponsors, major donors and other sources of funding and makes introductions
- Represents the organization in the community at large, clearly articulating and promoting the organization’s mission and accomplishments
- Identifies potential Board and Advisory Council members
Board Term / Time Commitment
CCPT Board Members will serve a three-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional successive term. Board meetings are held quarterly, and Committee meetings will be held in coordination with the Committee Chair. Board Members are expected to prepare for, attend, and participate in all meetings in person or virtually if necessary, barring any extenuating circumstances.
Average time commitment of 5-10 hours per month is determined by the CCPT calendar of activities and events and includes Board meetings, Committee work, and other Board commitments.
Service on the CCPT Board is without remuneration.
